An Ode to Tich

Created by David 2 months ago
My first day of Secondary School, I felt nervous about fitting in,
I couldn’t imagine the character I’d meet, so short and dinky and thin,

He said his name was Dave, a name the same as me,
Along came Mr David Foulkes, would you believe then there were three,

Three Daves might get confusing and you didn’t suit that name much anyway,
So along came the nickname, Tich, which I still called you each day,

We sat in class around that big desk, a life-long friendship had begun,
I knew then that you were special, so cheeky and full of fun,

Our inseparable trio formed and so many memories were made,
Ones that I will hold dear in my heart and hope they never fade,

Like when you lived on Greenbank Gardens, we drove that motorbike down the backs,
You spent more time falling off than making muddy tracks,

I remember when we drove to Newquay and travelled through the night,
When we got there I was shattered and I was out like a light,

You weren’t as tired as me though, as you’d slept the entire journey,
You said you weren’t ready for bed yet and wandered off without a key,

I was fast asleep when you returned from your wandering about,
And you had to sleep in the lobby, as I’d accidentally locked you out,

You loved driving around Warrington when you past your test,
In your first car we thought all the girls would be impressed,

We’d go to the rugby or cricket club to spend our hard earned cash,
When I used to curl my hair under and you tried to grow a tash,

I remember you crashed near the Cantilever and you didn’t want to tell your dad,
You ran off and hid because you knew he’d be really mad,

So here is my ode to you, dear friend, you were loved by everyone you’d meet,
Your cheeky quick-whit and charm, really was a treat,

Please don’t worry about your loved ones, Mimi and I will never be far away,
It’s time for you to rest in heaven now, until we meet again one day.
